Technical Textiles are widely used in the marine industry, with ropes, sailcloth and coverings as some obvious examples. Other uses include fabric reinforcements for composite structures such as glass multi-axial fabrics for hull construction.

There is also a growing demand for carbon fibre to reduce weight and increase strength. This is still predominantly focused on racing boats, but the rest of the industry is gradually catching up.
