Hainsworth Protective Fabrics has optimised protective performance by maximising the benefits and minimising the drawbacks of each aramid fibre to end up with a fabric with:
* Excellent textile properties - good extension, abrasion resistance and handle (NOMEX® on the outside and KEVLAR® on the inside)
* Excellent thermal performance and good insulation properties (NOMEX® on the outside with the higher heat transfer properties of KEVLAR® fibres shielded on the inside)
* Good strength retention after thermal exposure (KEVLAR® fibres on the inside are protected from initial flash)
* Excellent wear life - looks as new, even after repeated laundering (poor aesthetic properties / fibrillation of KEVLAR® removed from the face and hidden on the back of the fabric)
* Different thermal shrinkage of NOMEX® and KEVLAR® fibres when exposed to heat and flame allows the fabric to expand and trap air - 'Active Air Entrapment' - leading to up to 25% higher thermal protection than fabrics of a similar weight.
The only fabric that does all of the above is TI-technology(TM). TI-technology(TM) is currently in use in several UK Fire Brigades and Police Forces.
Nomex® Kevlar® and Thermo-Man(TM) are registered trade marks of DuPont
