In the air, textiles confer an important advantage in terms of the performance-to-weight ratio. Textile composites are used in structural components including the composite wings of the Airbus A380 and their usage is increasing with the Boeing Dreamliner.

In space, NASA employed inflatable airbags to cushion the landing of their Mars probe. Future NASA plans include an unmanned aircraft with inflatable wings constructed from coated textile fabric.

TFP's Optimat surface veils can be used to provide composite structures with a very high level of conductivity and may be used for lightning strike protection and as EMI shields for avionics. [more info]
